originaljackass | Ch. 2 - Legends are made when you're Jack of Fables

[Right now he's got his feet kicked up on a stack of all the various books he could find where he was in them. Collections of fairy tales, fables, and more colorful adaptions - all of them. The other day he raided the library and took all of them home. If people want to go off and read about him, they'll have to talk to the real thing first. After having spoken to some other people about their worlds and sharing his own identity when convenient, Jack has come to some conclusions about Luceti. Ones that requires a little more looking into.]

You people have legends in your world, right? Any of them true? Any of you ever met them? Or hell, maybe some of you are the legendary type too.

I'm one of the latter. I'm Jack of the Tales - at least, all the good ones. Any of you [losers] people heard of me?

Oh right, one more thing. Someone mind telling me how those filters work? Seems like it could be handy.

[Later, for anyone who wants to bother him in person, he'll be hanging out at the shops, wishing he had money to spend on all of it (even though it's all free). Luceti is a poor place to be for a man obsessed with wealth.]

Eating no fat? Building crooked houses? Nimbleness?

Don't do fatties, that story doesn't even mention Jack, and I'm very nimble.

The house that Jack built? So you deny building the damned thing, then? Unsurprising, that.

Think Giant Slayer. Jack Frost. That kind of thing.

Did you slay the giant before or after building that house?

"Cold" is a better term for how she makes me feel, actually. Also, she's a bit stupid. But golden-hearted, as it were. Lovely little thing. So I suppose you just walk about and---

[Since this is a voice post, just picture Sparrow doing some kind of weird thing with his hands. Because that is in fact what he is doing, instead of talking.]

Walk about and do what? [Because you totally lost him.]

[Just more hand motions.] Like that. Though with the way you built that buggered house, it's likely your frost don't come out too magnificent-like either.

Don't have those powers anymore. Besides, they're way overrated and a real pain in the ass. Being a god of all wintery weather seems real nice until the ladies won't share a bed with you because you give them frostbite just touching them.

I see. And what do you give them now?

The best they'll ever get.

Right; I'm certain they appreciate that, mate. All moved into your new place, then?

Yeah. It's even smaller than my flat back in Fabletown.

This---Fabletown---are there others there, like you? From the old stories?

That's right. If they knew I was blabbing all of this, they'd be pissed.

Why's that, then? I've never heard of the place. Valuable things there, I expect?

They like their privacy. If people knew there was a district full of immortals with some interesting magic, they'd start asking a lot of questions.

I've a mind to turn immortal one of these days, mate. Just got to find the right method, and I'll cheat the Uncheatable One.

From one Jack to another, the real trick is knowing that there's no one devil. If you make a bargain with The Dark One, there's always some other master of hell who will bargain for your soul to prove he's the real McCoy.

Really...and what happens when their different debts come due?

Find another devil, renegotiate.

I don't like debt, as a rule, mate. [Probably because he is always broke and owes everyone in the Equatorial Zone money.] Can't be truly free with that kind of weight on your soul.

Freedom's an illusion. So I just live in the now and enjoy what I can get.
